Entrevista com São Paulo/Interview with Saint Paul junho 29, 2022

De acordo com a tradição, em um dia 29 de junho como o de hoje, Paulo de Tarso foi decapitado por ordem de Nero, imperador romano. Idealizei um estudo sobre o Apóstolo dos Gentios, um dos principais responsáveis pela expansão do Cristianismo no mundo antigo, e, como forma de entreter os leitores, elaborei o texto na forma de entrevista jornalística, baseada em relatos bíblicos. Além de responder a perguntas biográficas sobre a vida do pesquisado, a matéria também sugere como São Paulo se posicionaria diante de questões que envolvem a importância de Deus hoje, na vida das pessoas.Vale a pena pois imaginar: 

 

“Paulo nasceu no ano 9 DC, na cidade de Tarso, capital da Cilícia, província romana localizada na região da Ásia (atual Turquia), ao norte de Chipre. Saulo, como era chamado em aramaico, foi um israelita descendente da tribo de Benjamim. Judeu de religião, teve o Rabi fariseu Gamaliel como professor e se tornou um homem de muita cultura. De tão fervoroso defensor que era do judaísmo, revelou-se grande perseguidor dos primeiros discípulos de Jesus. Ao se converter, no entanto, passou a ser seu maior pregador. Foi pioneiro na formação de muitas igrejas primitivas, e escreveu a maior parte dos livros do Novo Testamento da Bíblia.

 

Como o senhor se vê por ter perseguido os cristãos e agora ser considerado grande apóstolo do Mestre, enviado para evangelizar

os gentios? 

Paulo: Tornei-me ministro do evangelho de Cristo pelo dom da graça de Deus, a mim concedida pela operação de seu poder. Embora eu seja o menor dos menores de todos os santos, foi-me concedida esta graça de anunciar aos gentios as insondáveis riquezas de Cristo. Ao Rei eterno, o Deus único, imortal e invisível, sejam honra e glória para todo o sempre. Amém. (Efesios 3:7,8; I Timóteo 1:17)

O que mudou na sua concepção de Deus?

Paulo: No judaísmo eu superava a maioria dos judeus da minha idade, e era extremamente zeloso das tradições dos meus antepassados. Mas Deus me separou desde o ventre materno e me chamou por sua graça. Assim, não consultei ninguém, quando lhe agradou revelar o seu Filho em mim para que eu o anunciasse entre os gentios. (Gálatas 1:14 a 16)

Como aconteceu sua conversão? 

Paulo: Perseguia os seguidores de Jesus até a morte, prendendo tanto homens como mulheres, e lançando-os na prisão. Fui recomendado por cartas pelos sacerdotes para me apresentar à sinagoga de Damasco, na Síria, a fim de prender cristãos, para serem punidos em Jerusalém. Por volta do meio-dia, e já me aproximando da cidade, uma forte luz vinda do céu brilhou de repente ao meu redor. Cai por terra sem ver nada e ouvi uma voz que me dizia: “Saulo, Saulo, por que você está me perseguindo?” Então perguntei: Quem é você, Senhor? E ele respondeu: “Eu sou Jesus, o Nazareno, a quem você persegue”. Os que me acompanhavam viram a luz, mas não entenderam a voz daquele que falava comigo. Assim perguntei: Que devo fazer, Senhor? E ele me disse: “Levante-se, entre em Damasco, onde lhe será dito o que você deve fazer”. (Atos 9:1 a 6)

 

Algum discípulo de Jesus o procurou? 

Paulo: Um homem chamado Ananias entrou na casa onde eu estava e me disse: “Irmão Saulo, o Senhor Jesus, que lhe apareceu no caminho por onde você vinha, enviou-me para que você volte a ver e seja cheio do Espírito Santo. Imediatamente, algo como escamas caiu dos meus olhos e, então, passei a enxergar novamente. Depois disso, logo comecei a pregar que Jesus é o Filho de Deus, 

 nas sinagogas de Damasco. (Atos 9:17, 18 e 20)

O que os judeus de Damasco acharam disso? 

Paulo: Depois de algum tempo, eu fui informado que os Judeus armavam um plano para me matar. (Atos 9:23)

 
O que eles fizeram? 

Paulo: Passaram a vigiar as portas da cidade 24 horas por dia, para me matar quando tentasse fugir. Mas os irmãos me levaram à noite e fizeram com que eu escapasse por um cesto que desceu por uma abertura que havia na muralha. (Atos 9:24 e 25)

 
Depois disso, o que o senhor fez? 

Paulo: Fui para Jerusalém e tentei me reunir com os discípulos, mas eles me temiam, não acreditando na sinceridade da minha conversão. Foi quando o irmão Barnabé me levou para ver os apóstolos e contou a eles que eu tive um encontro com o Senhor no caminho, e que preguei corajosamente o nome de Jesus em Damasco. Então me aceitaram e eu pude ficar com eles.(Atos 9:26 a 28)

 
Paulo, muitos não aceitam a ideia de que Deus perdoa todo mundo, inclusive aquelas pessoas que aprontam e matam e depois diz que mudou de vida e agora é crente. O que o senhor tem a dizer sobre isso? 

Paulo: Esta afirmação é fiel e digna de toda a aceitação: Cristo Jesus veio ao mundo para salvar os pecadores, dos quais eu sou o pior. Mas por isso mesmo alcancei misericórdia, para que em mim, o pior dos pecadores, Cristo Jesus demonstrasse toda a grandeza da sua paciência, usando-me como exemplo para aqueles que nele haveriam de crer para a vida eterna. As pessoas são salvas pela graça, por meio da fé, e isso não vem delas, é dom de Deus; não por obras, para que ninguém se glorie. Quem está em Cristo nova criatura é!

(I Timóteo: 15 e 16; Efesios 2:8 é 9; II Coríntios 5:17) 

 
Diante de todos os problemas que o homem enfrenta atualmente, o que esperar de Deus? 

Paulo: Se Deus protege àquele que Nele espera, quem será capaz de se opor a essa proteção? Estou convencido de que nem a morte, nem a vida, nem anjos, nem demônios, nem o presente, nem o futuro, nem quaisquer poderes, nem altura, nem profundidade, nem qualquer outra criatura será capaz de nos separar do amor de Deus, que está em Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor". (Romanos 8: 31, 38 e 39)

Você acredita que poderá ressuscitar, da mesma

forma que aconteceu com Cristo?

Paulo: Não me arrogo em afirmar que eu já tenha isso como garantido por minha própria experiência; mas o que posso dizer é que procuro não levar em conta o que passou, e fazer o melhor possível agora. O meu objetivo maior é desfrutar das promessas que Deus tem reservado especialmente para mim, conforme a fé que tenho em Cristo Jesus. (Filipenses 3:13 e 14)

Valeu a pena todo o seu trabalho de Apóstolo

de Cristo?

Paulo: Sim, porque combati o bom combate, terminei a corrida, guardei a fé. Agora me está reservada a coroa da justiça, que o Senhor, justo Juiz, me dará naquele dia; e não somente a mim, mas também a todos os que amam a sua vinda. (2 Timóteo 4: 7 e 8)

Interview with Saint Paul (June 29, 2022) According to tradition, on a June 29 such as today, Paul of Tarsus was beheaded by order of Nero, the Roman emperor. I conceived a study about him who was known as, the Apostle of the Gentiles, one of the main responsible for the expansion of Christianity in the ancient world, and, as a way of entertaining people so that they could read him in a pleasant way, I prepared the text in journalistic interview, faithful to biblical accounts. In addition to answering biographical questions (about his personal life), the article suggests how São Paulo would position itself in the face of questions that involve the importance of God, today, in people's lives. It's worth imagining: “Paul was born in the year 9 after Christ, in the city of Tarsus, capital of Cilicia, a Roman province located in the region of Asia (present-day Turkey), north of Cyprus. Saul, as he was called in Aramaic, was an Israelite descended from the tribe of Benjamin, according to the Bible. A religious Jew, he had the Pharisee Rabbi Gamaliel as a teacher and became a man of great culture. From being such a fervent defender of Judaism, he revealed himself to be a great persecutor of the first disciples of Jesus. Upon converting, however, he became its greatest preacher. He pioneered the formation of many early churches and wrote most of the books in the New Testament.

How do you see yourself for having persecuted Christians and now being considered a great apostle of the Master, sent to evangelize the Gentiles? 

Paul: I became a minister of the gospel of Christ by the gift of the grace of God, given to me by the working of his power. Although I am the least of the least of all the saints, this grace was given to me to proclaim to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ. To the eternal King, the only God, immortal and invisible, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:7,8; I Timothy 1:17) 

How then did it happen? 

Paul: He persecuted Jesus' followers to the death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison. I was recommended by letters by the priests to present myself to the synagogue in Damascus, Syria, in order to arrest Christians, to be punished in Jerusalem. Around noon, and already approaching the city, a strong light from the sky suddenly shone around me. I fell to the ground without seeing anything and I heard a voice saying to me: “Saul, Saul, why are you chasing me?” So I asked: Who are you, Lord? And he replied, "I am Jesus the Nazarene, whom you are persecuting." Those who accompanied me saw the light, but they did not understand the voice of the one who was speaking to me. So I asked: What should I do, Lord? And he said to me, "Get up, enter Damascus, where you will be told what you must do." (Acts 9:1 to 6) 

If you were a practicing Jew, why did you 

convert to Christianity? 

Paul: In Judaism I surpassed most Jews my age, and I was extremely zealous for the traditions of my ancestors. But God separated me from the womb and called me by his grace. So I consulted no one when it pleased him to reveal his Son in me so that I might proclaim him among the Gentiles. (Galatians 1:14 to 16)

And now, how was it for Christians 

to receive him? 

Paul: A man named Ananias entered the house where I was and said to me, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you in the way you were coming, has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Immediately, something like scales fell from my eyes, and then I could see again. After that, I soon began to preach that Jesus is the Son of God, in the synagogues of Damascus. (Acts 9:17, 18 and 20) 

What did the Jews of Damascus think of this? Paul: After some time, I was informed that the Jews were plotting to kill me. (Acts 9:23)

What they did? 

Paul: They started to guard the city gates 24 hours a day, to kill me when I tried to escape. But the brothers took me at night and made me escape through a basket that went down through an opening in the wall. (Acts 9:24 and 25) 

After that, what did you do? 

Paul: I went to Jerusalem and tried to meet with the disciples, but they feared me, not believing in the sincerity of my conversion. That's when Brother Barnabas took me to see the apostles and told them that I had an encounter with the Lord on the way, and that I had courageously preached the name of Jesus in Damascus. So they accepted me and I was able to stay with them. (Acts 9:26 to 28) 

Paulo, many do not accept the idea that God forgives everyone, including those people who commit and kill and then say that he has 

changed his life and is now a believer. What do you have to say about it? 

Paul: This statement is faithful and worthy of all acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst. But for this very reason I obtained mercy, so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might demonstrate all the greatness of his patience, using me as an example to those who would believe in him for eternal life. People are saved by grace, through faith, and that doesn't come from them, it's the gift of God; not by works, lest anyone should boast. Who is in Christ a new creature! (1 Timothy: 15 and 16; Ephesians 2:8 is 9; 2 Corinthians 5:17)

Faced with all the problems that man faces today, what to expect from God? 

Paul: If God protects those who wait on Him, who will be able to oppose that protection? I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor demons, nor the present, nor the future, nor any powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:31, 38, 39)

Do you believe that you will be able to resurrect, the same way that Christ happened? 

Paul: I don't presume to claim that I already take this for granted from my own experience; but what I can say is that I try not to take into account what happened, and to do the best I can now. My main objective is to enjoy the promises that God has reserved especially for me, according to the faith I have in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13 and 14)

Was all your work as an Apostle of Christ worth it? 

Paul: Yes, because I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith. Now there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who love his coming. (2 Timothy 4:7 and 8)
