O que precisa ser feito/What needs to be done

What needs to be done
(Setember 29, 2019)
There was a time when ancient nations like France, England, and Italy were not only banana republics because at the time of their revolutions, revolts and upheavals, they were not yet republics (the UK remains not, at least in the form) .
We insist that we no longer consider military intervention for fear of being called a "banana republic", but we continue to act as such. To paraphrase the Cearense composer Belchior, I would say that "our vices are still the same, and appearances are not deceiving."
We have not learned to respect democracy just as we demand it from at least other citizens, not ourselves individually, because of our petty interests. I speak as a representative of most ordinary Brazilians, not necessarily as one of them in fact.
We need to consider that Brazil is still an immature nation today, as those older nations were in the past. It is not enough to write the most "democratic" constitution in the world. Unfortunately, we still need to evolve perhaps four hundred years to reach the level where those countries are today.
Our institutions are still banana. National Banana Congress, Banana STF, most banana politicians, and we still need to deal with it. Our reality is still that you need a jeep, a cable and a soldier to do what needs to be done urgently.
