A liberdade da Proteção/Freedom from protection

Melhor que, antes de ser proibido andar sem máscara, seja bem explicado às pessoas que é para o bem delas, como defesa individual contra a pandemia. A propósito, você já procurou saber a opinião de quem sofreu com o corona vírus, que antes teimava em não se precaver?  O COVID-19 não vai respeitar a pessoa, só por fazer resistência ao uso da máscara. Não é essa uma questão política, mas sanitária. Sabemos que muitos se sentem incomodados, eu também me sinto, mas fugir de incômodos não é o caminho da verdadeira liberdade. A liberdade individual não pode ser encarada como um fim em si mesmo, pois a liberdade absoluta não é justa.

Uma vez que sua liberdade em não usar máscara pode colocar em risco a saúde alheia, ela já não é mais liberdade. Portanto, nada é mais liberal, no sentido de proteger o direito dos outros indivíduos, do que o governante proibir e multar quem não usar máscara. Não há nada de comunismo nisso, ainda que alguns governadores e prefeitos, por serem socialistas, delirem de prazer sadomasoquista por tomarem uma medida como essa. Por outro lado, há pessoas inteligentes que sabem julgar corretamente a validade delas, independentemente da ideologia do mandatário. Aliás, o uso de máscara pode nos garantir o direito de ir e vir. A quarentena horizontal, não. Dessa devemos ser urgentemente absolvidos.

A plena felicidade de uma pessoa não prescinde da felicidade e liberdade das outras pessoas, buscando só o próprio interesse por meio de uma liberdade fácil e sem limite. Pelo contrário, é enfrentando sacrifícios e dificuldades que conseguimos ser felizes,  pois o que é bom de verdade tem preço. Não se fie em trilhar o caminho mais fácil, pois ele é enganoso.

Estas são palavra de quem, há três dias do início oficial da Pandemia, quando não havia proibição alguma, entrou em um shopping com máscara, o que chamou a atenção das pessoas. Eu me sentia incomodado fisicamente com o acessório, embora não estivesse "nem aí" para o espanto que causava nos outros por usá-lo. Sabia que o que estava fazendo era certo, justo, honesto e inteligente. Estava cuidando da saúde minha e do próximo. Eu estava desconfiado de que poderia já ter sido infectado assintomaticamente. Agi livremente, não movido por proibição, porque acredito que a liberdade está em nós, intimamente ligada ao nosso conhecimento, submissa a nossa capacidade de raciocínio, e não  a um instinto de reação imatura.

We know that many are uncomfortable, I am, too, but running away from inconvenience is not the way to true freedom. Individual freedom cannot be seen as an end in itself, because absolute freedom is not just.

Since your freedom not to wear a mask can endanger the health of others, it is no longer freedom. Therefore, nothing is more liberal, in the sense of protecting the rights of other individuals, than the government banning and fining those who do not wear a mask. There is nothing communist about it, although some governors and mayors, because they are socialists, are deluded by sadomasochistic pleasure in taking such a step. On the other hand, there are intelligent people who know how to correctly judge their validity, regardless of the mandatory ideology. In fact, wearing a mask can guarantee us the right to come and go. The horizontal quarantine is not. We must urgently be absolved of this.

The full happiness of a person does not dispense with the happiness and freedom of other people, seeking only his own interest through an easy and unlimited freedom. On the contrary, it is by facing sacrifices and difficulties that we are able to be happy, because what is really good has a price. Do not rely on taking the easy way, as it is misleading.

These are the words of those who, three days before the official start of Pandemic, when there was no prohibition, entered a mall with a mask, which drew people's attention. I felt physically uncomfortable with the accessory, although I didn't care "for the astonishment that I caused others to use it. He knew that what he was doing was right, just, honest and intelligent. I was taking care of my health and that of others. I was suspicious that I might have already been infected asymptomatically. I acted freely, not moved by prohibition, because I believe that freedom is in us, closely linked to our knowledge, submissive to our reasoning capacity, and not to an immature reaction instinct.
